Crafted from resonant Totara wood.
Measuring approximately 12cm x 3.1cm (4 3/4' x 1 1/4'), this Koauau comes nestled in a traditional plaited flax bag (kete). Legend has it that the Koauau's enchanting melodies played a pivotal role in the tale of Hinemoa and Tutanekai. In the right hands, this side-blown flute can produce hauntingly beautiful sounds. To play, simply purse your lips as if you're whistling, then position the Koauau against your lips, blowing across the edge to find your perfect tone.
